| BACKGROUND |
| Soccer in North America Sports and athletics outside of professional football, baseball, basketball and then obviously hockey in Canada, even at the elite level captures national attention only a few weeks a year, often only every four years. That to a large degree has been and still is the market position of soccer. Hugely successful at the youth and community level, it is still evolving at the professional and even high-end elite level. It suffers especially with a lack of programming for serious players as they enter their late teen and young adult years. It has a growing but still limited financial base, impacted to some degree because it has not captured any media attention. It is therefore difficult to use as a catalyst for innovation and a vehicle to create new programming or facilities, especially without something like a ‘local’ World Cup or Olympics; New innovation usually combines a significant capital budget, with an accompanying ‘deficit driven’ operating budget. Northbrook Development Group hopes it can do its part to change that! |
